Craft envy of the day

Sometimes my blog browsing makes me feel like a sorry excuse of a crafter. I CAN'T believe how creative some of these people are.

For example, check out this Faux metal wall art:
These are made out of TOILET PAPER ROLLS. What!?!
Serious props to Suzy's Artsy-Craftsy Sitcom. You can check out how she made these here.

Oreo Birthday Cake

Oreo Birthday Cake

Sorry about the picture quality, this picture was taken with my cell phone.

As I'm sure you can tell, I LOVE oreos. For my birthday this year I decided to make myself an oreo birthday cake. Click HERE for the recipe. It turned out so good, my sister wanted one for her birthday too! I think I will be having this every year for my birthay from now on. haha

My first pillow

I really wanted to make this pillow, but I was out voted by my sisters. Oh well, maybe next time.
I love V and Co. I got the idea for my pillow from her blog. The pillow I made is a gift for my sister (Marie) for Christmas. I have four sisters so I have been finding lots of fun ideas for their Christmas via blog stalking. haha

I pretty much winged it when I made this. I wasn't quite sure how the "envelope pillow" was supposed to turn out in the back. I sewed 3 of the sides together from the inside and then strait stitched across the top.

Fabric Bracelet

In my recent blog browsing (stalking) I have discovered fabric bracelets and fell in LOVE. I was first inspired by these that I found on V and Co. Then I found these really cute braided rosette flowers. So naturally, I decided that I would combine both ideas into one. Every craft or project I do is usually a combination of a few I have found on blogs. I do the same thing with recipes. If I find a few similar recipes for the same dish, I pick the ingredients out of each recipe that sound the best and combine.

Here is the end product:

First, I cut out three pieces of fabric.
I made each strip 20 inches long because i had no idea how much they would bunch up once I braided them.

Then I stacked the three pieces of fabric on top of eachother and sewed them together.

I frayed the edges a little, tacked the fabric to the floor and started braiding. I made the braid fairly tight. I decided to make three braids for my bracelet.
After all three braids were made, I sewed them together at the end. I also sewed through straight across (through the middle) all three braids so that they would stay together. I did this every inch or so to keep it tight. I wrapped the bracelet around my wrist to measure how long it needed to be and cut off the excess fabric. Then I sewed the ends together. To cover the mess from sewing the ends together, I added a rosette.

I can't wait to make more of these!

Cafe Rio Chicken

I tend to get stuck in the rut of making the same four or five recipes for dinner every week. I started rummaging through my recipe books to find something new to try. I only have a few recipe books and I feel like I have gone through them a dozen times, but I decided to give it another try.
I recently had Cafe Rio for the first time. It was A-MA-ZING! I had never even heard of it until it was decided that that's where we were headed for dinner.
Anyway, I found a recipe for Cafe Rio Chicken in one of my cook books!! So exciting! It's funny because I know I have looked at the recipe before and thought, really? Chili powder and Italian dressing!? Weird.
It most definately did not taste weird.

Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:
1 small bottle Kraft Zesty Italian dressing
1 Tbsp. chili powder
1 Tbsp. cumin
3 cloves garlic
6-7 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Pour all ingredients in crockpot on low for 4 hours. Shred meat and cook for one more hour.

If you have had Cafe Rio, you know that they also have super yummy Pico De Gallo. I searched around online for a recipe and found one on foodnetwork.com

The first time I tried this recipe, I also made guacamole. It was my first time ever making guacamole. It turned out pretty yummy!
This time I didn't have time to make guacamole so I only had the pico de gallo and chicken in a burrito.
Since I love this recipe so much I made lots of extra chicken for left overs. I had it again, but added some skillet potatoes and Filibertos hot sauce. YUM!

Feelin' Festive

We are seriously lacking in Harvest/Thanksgiving decor in the Roeder household. Or any type of holiday decor for that matter. So i decided to make my very first wreath.

The flowers with the green centers are from Walmart. Everything else on the wreath is from Michaels.
I am so excited to finally have some holiday decor for the house!
